I PHILADELPHIA GETS FIRST j PICK IN MAJOR DRAFT The Philadelphia National League team had the first pick in the major league draft meeting held Tuesday night and selected Merrill May, third baseman of the Newark championship team. The Phillies also got Legrant Scott, an outfielder, from Indianapolis. The Chicago White Sox secured Art Herring, a pitcher, from St. Paul. Detroit claimed James Lynn, Columbus pitcher. Pittsburgh selected Fern Bell, outfielder, from Louisville and Jack Jeulich, International League first sacker, from Rochester. Brooklyn drafted two pitchers, Hugh Casey of Memphis and Russ Evans of Jersey City. Hal Spindel, Seattle catcher, went to the Browns, and Jimmy Outlaw, Syracuse outfielder, to the Cards. Bostons Red Sox obtained Wayman Kerksleck, right-hander, from Little Rock. Charlie Gelbert, former Cardinal infielder who played with Toledo this season, goes to Washington. Roy Par-melee, former New York Giant, St. Louis Cardinal and Chicago Cub hurler, who played this season with Minneapolis, will return to the big time, going to the Philadelphia Athletics..
