! j j j : i | j | j j j : | Offer Homebred Stakes At Former Park Today Kay Ellen and Bells Phil Vie for Favoritism in Sophomore Test By DEAN WILLIAMS FONNER PARK. Grand Island. Neb., May 9. — Eight of Nebraskas top homebreds will go to the post in the first running of the Fonner Park Nebraska Bred Stakes. The five and one-half furlongs sprint will carry a purse of ,200 added. This will be the first in a series of three-year-old stakes which will be decided on the Nebraska cir- cuit and designed exclusively for homebred sophomores. * Ed Luthers Kay Ellen and Phil Raaschs Bells Phil will vie for top honors in the Friday feature. The top three-year-old homebreds have met twice at the current meeting with each gaining a victory. In their first meeting Bells Phil proved best while Kay Ellen finished fourth, but in their next Bells Phil broke slowly after being fractious in the gate and the Ed Luther filly won very easily. Kay Ellen has won her last two starts at Fonner Park arid will be asked to carry 114 pounds as compared to the Raasch colts high weight of 122 pounds. The "pull" in weights and her present good form should give Kay Ellen a slight advantage in the homebred stakes. The other six who will be going postward I in the feature are Roy S.
