Rosewood Rosewood Victorious Victorious in in New New Jersey; Jersey; Grey Grey Lag Lag Field Field May May Number Number Twelve Twelve Beats Pellita Home By Three Lengths Big Daughter of Bull Lea And Sister to Coaltown Is Potential Stakes Hopeful By TEDDY COX GARDEN STATE PARK. Camden. N. J., May 9. — The magic combination of the Calumet Farm and Willie Hartack came up with another potential stakes star when Rosewood, a full sister to the great horse Coaltown. rather handily captured the Millville Purse before a crowd of 17.859 here this afternoon. Hartack rated the big, powerful daughter of Bull Lea — Easy Lass, by Blenheim II., carefully during the early part of the mile and 70 yards here, and when he called on her as they moved into the far turn, she darted up smoothly, took over at the eighth pole, and won by three lengths. In second place was Hal Price Headleys Pellita. while John S. Phipps Farullah was third, after setting a sharp early pace. with the Brookfield Farms I Now fourth. The latter.s effort was very disappointing. Rosewood raced the mile and 70 yards in 1:442.-, under 114 pounds. She was a co-favorite with I Now and paid .40. Specified Takes Claimer William G. Helis Specified, who had not won a race during the previous seven starts of her career while competing without a claiming tag. was dropped down against the ,500— ,000 platers in the opening race and she checked in punctually at the finish by a neck under the hard driving of Sammy Boulmetis. The heavy favorite. Kensington, stepped out into a good lead on the turn and was still in front after the eighth pole had been reached. However, he failed to respond to Willie Hartack s urging and finished fourth. Specified was close up early, swung to the outside and outgamed Kiki K. in the run to the wire. The winner raced the six furlongs in 1:1245 and paid 9.80. A Daily Double of 1.80 developed when Hartack was more fortunate with Newcomb Greens Battlement, who found a band of v.eary foes in the stretch and drew off to score as his rider pleased, the margin being five lengths. Battlement raced at Gulf-stream Park, where he was far back. Like Specified, though, he was dropped down the class ladder and the ,500-,000 claimers obviously were not good enough for him. Joseph A. Mazzas I Hope was second and Nelson W. Lodges Grecian Haste was third. Battlement paid .60 and his time was 1:1293.
