Ace Show Takes Dublin Purse on Pimlico Card Mayor Robert Briscoe Presents Trophy to Owner James L. Cole PIMLICO, Baltimore, Md., May 9. — Carrying his speed for a mile and a sixteenth, James L. Coles Ace Show this afternoon scored an upset in winning the featured Dublin Purse by a half length over James F. McHughs River Jordan. Two lengths farther back in third position came North Downs Farm stables Freedom Parley. After Ace Show, a five-year-old son of Ace Admiral, had completed the trip in 1:45%, his proud owner received a trophy from Robert Briscoe, Lord Mayor of Dublin. Backers of the winner took down a return of 9.40 after jockey Jimmy Lynch had turned in a well-judged ride. Ace Show had sprinted in each of his three previous starts and had faltered badly at six furlongs in his most recent outing. He showed no signs of quitting today, however, and responded gamely to turn back the stretch challenge of River Jordan. Freedom Parley, co-favored with Freedom Parley with the crowd of 8,802, lacked speed to keep up early. He made a bold bid from the outside on the final turn but lacked further response through the home lane, being beaten two and one-half lengths for all the money. Charles C. Jones Dr. Eugene J., winner of four races in six starts last season, gained his first victory of the current campaign when he was an easy six-length winner of the fifth race. The Bolero colt was in front soon after the start and increased his advantage steadily to complete the five and one-half furlongs in 1:06. Aljax Stables Brady A. was second by a neck over David A. Livingstons Sempre. The winner was a .00 favorite and the second success of the afternoon for Eldon Nelson. Magnolia Farms Caddys Pat, a ,500 plater, remained unbeaten in three starts as a seven-year-old in taking the opener under Reggie Root. The Pass Out mare prevailed by a half length over Bryan Webbs Kum-on-In, with Mrs. Augusta Halperns Chanzibar third. Caddys Pat, who was timed in 1:14% for six furlongs, paid .00 and started a Daily Double which paid 43.80 when Joe Paolis Trappers Treat took the second event as a 6.20 longshot.
