Sportsmans Headliner Attracts Nine VanBerg Coupling ] May Rule Favorite Validon, Y Bond, Petes Folly Also Likely to Offer Strong Bids for Top Honors Today SPORTSMANS PARK, Cicero, 111., May 8. — Marion H. VanBerg, the Columbus Neb., owner of one of the largest stables on the grounds, will send out two horses post-ward in Fridays ,500 Occupation Purse, the featured six and one-half furlong event at Sportsman s Park. VanBerg, who usually ranks among the top money winners in this has been having a tough time finding the winners circle. He did come up with three victories since the meeting opened on April 20 and the VanBerg horse to make victory possible was Red Charger. an eight-year-old gelding, who has won three races. The VanBerg representatives in Fridays headliner are Better Goods and Doc Moorman, both winless at the meeting, but expected to play an important part in Occupation. Better Goods competed without success in both the Spring Handicap and the Nash Memorial, while Doc Moorman was second to Last and Only in a one mile affair. Validon, Howdy Man Coupled Another coupling in the field that attracted nine horses is B. W. Simpson and B. H. Wises Validon and Howdy Man. They also ran as an entry last Monday, with Validon winning the race and Howdy Man being unplaced. Although the two entries are expected to attract the most attention, considerable competition could come from J. Kel Hous-sels Y Bond, a winner of two races at the meeting. Y Bond raced impressively in defeating such as Snoozie and Validon in the Park Forest Purse on April 26. He scored a victory over Howdy Man earlier. The field also includes Patricia Hobans Petes Folly, N. R. Lows Akboy, Alex Kara Sr.s Blood Test and Rama Stables Lyn-ette. Petes Folly, close up in the one mile Elmhurst Purse last week, set the pace for most of the route, finishing third behind Snoozie and Last and Only, and shapes up as a good contender in the field, as does Akboy, which finished second to Dr. Joe Kay one week ago. Lynette also was in the money in a six-furlongs race won by Validon last Monday. She finished third.
