Kings Plate Handicap At Omaha Engages Ten New Shift Gives Opponents Two to Seventeen Pounds in .,000 Race By DEAN WILLIAMS AK-SAR-BEN, Omaha, Nebr., June 4. Wesley Bolens New Shift will concede from two to.. 17 pounds as he goes to the post under the top impost of 119 pounds in the 000 Ak-Sar-Ben Kings Plate Handicap. Ten top sophomores accepted the weights set down by racing secretary Kenneth Mcintosh. The field as it now stands will include: Prince Gala, 117; Karoc, 116; Big Coupon, 114; Flashy Fellow, 113; Bells Phil, 112; Mystery Melody, 111; Hi-Socks. 109; Sunny Boy S., 108; Teamie, 103, and Adelene Dasher, 102. The Kings Plate appears to be one of the most wide open affairs presented at Ak-Sar-Ben this year. The highly competitive nature of the three-yeai--old handicap should make it extremely interesting. The Ak-Sar-Ben Princess, which was the Continued on Page Forty Kings Plate Handicap At Omaha Engages Ten New Shift Gives Opponents Two to Seventeen Pounds in ,000 Race Continued from Page One first major test for three-year-olds at the Center Street plant, was won by New Shift as he came from far off the pace to catch Twilight Run and Big Coupon at the wire. The Wesley Bolen gelding was very impressive in that victory and was "tabbed" by many as the best three-year-old on the grounds. A week later F. O. Akins Big Coupon ;AVon the Iron Liege Purse in 1:10, defeating Karoc and New Shift. The front-runrifng Bymeabond filly was as impressive in her two-length victory as New Shift Tiad been in the Princess Handicap, leaving the three-year-old division in a very unstable condition. In the Ak-Sar-Ben Princess, although it was only five and one-half furlongs, the early pace in the race made the come-from-behind style of running employed by New Shift very effective. Big Coupon and ; Twilight Run raced as a team during the j early running and the Bolen gelding fouuvd it much less difficult to catch the tiring pair. The F. O. Akin filly was able to gain an easy lead in the Iron Liege. Big Coupon showed to much better advantage in that effort, so it seems that the Kings Plate Handicap Wednesday may be decided on how much early speed is in the race. Prince Gala, owned by Ray Danner, has won tlu;ee races this year. His first two victories came at Oaklawn Park where he was campaigned early this spring. The son of Blue Gay gained his most important laurels at Sportsmans Park, near Chicago. Against a good field of allowance performers he defeated Twilight Run and Will Command. All of his winning efforts came while racing over "off" tracks. A. H. Krogh will be represented in the Ak-Sar-Ben Kings Plate Handicap by Karoc. The fine looking son of Djeddah was a beaten favorite in his first appearance in Omaha. He was backed down to even money off of his recent good showing at Turf Paradise, in which he finished second to the highly regarded Bettyanbull. Karoc was able to do no better than run second to Big Coupon, being beaten some two lengths. The race should have served as a tightener and he -should be in fine fettle for his appearance under the green and white silks of A. H. Krogh Wednesday.
