Branch, Washington Employe, Injured in Elevator Shaft Fall WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, 111., June 4. John Branch, 17, of 15722 Park Avenue, Harvey, a member of the maintenance crew at Washington Park, was painfully but not seriously injured today when he fell 15 feet down an elevator shaft. Branch told track physicians that he thought he elevator was stationary on the second floor of the south clubhouse and forced the doors open to take it down. The elevator, however, had been lowered to the first level and Branch stepped into the shaft and fell to the top of the carriage. He suffered contusions of the back. Track physician Dr. Warren Blim said Xrays would be taken to learn whether any further injuries were received.
