While Dogoon could not do better than come within one and three-fifth seconds of his seven-furlong track record, he was a veiy easy winner of the Gallios Purse, best race on the card here this afternoon. Dogoons mark for the distance, established as a three-year-old is 1:21. Today he raced the seven-eighths in 1:22 and won well in hand from the favored Besomer, with Hasseyampa finishing third. Dogoon, ridden by Dave Erb and carrying the silks of E. Gay Drake, was never headed and his margin at the end was four and one-half lengths. I might have been considerably greater had Erb urged him on. Dogoon, who finished last in his only previous appearance at this meeting while racing in going he did not fancy, was the second choice today and paid .80. Weather Ideal, Track Fast But six sought honors in the event, and Dogoon dashed to the front at once while Besomer was away last. Dogoon scooted down the backstretch about two lengths in advance of Ja Ja and increased his margin to three lengths over the latter by the time the first half-mile had been completed. Erb gave, the five-year-old his head rounding the stretch bend and he lengthened his advantage to five lengths, a margin he held at midstretch. Meanwhile, Besomer had been gaining and a furlong out was in second place. It was not even a race during the last eighth when Dogoons superiority asserted itself so much that his rider took a fairly good hold on him. Besomer, saving ground, was one and one-half lengths in front of the good finishing Hasseyampa as they went under the wire. Ja Ja was a weakening fourth. Racegoers were favored with almost ideal weather again this afternoon and 9,007 were in attendance. The track was fast. The first race was fol maiden two-year-olds and Quinap, a son of Quibu Elcinap, making his eighth start, was the winner in a large field. Maggie McGraw, a first-time starter, set the pace but tired in the last furlong and was headed by Quinap. The latter was doing his best, at the end, however, to hold Advancement, another first outer, who finished fast. Ken Church rode the winner. John Heckmann, who had five seconds on Monday, broke the jinx to ride the winner of the second. He was aboard the well-played Gal Ticks, and after Le Sabre and Skoal had set the early pace, Gal Ticks came along to take over in the final furlong of the seven-furlong dash. A field of 12 raced and the Daily Double paid 7.80. Seven juveniles were engaged at five furlongs in the third, and Burdetta, who has been threatening, was the victorious one. The filly, owned by Anthony Graff -agnini and ridden by Jerry Truman, caught King Glade ni the stretch. The favored Famous Wine was unplaced.
