Jumpers Take Over After Regular Monmouth Meet Midsummer Hurdle Cap Renewal August 2 to Highlight Meeting OCEANPORT, N. J., June 4. Hurdie racing will return to Monmouth Park on July 8 for its longest season at New Jerseys modern thoroughbred center, president Amory L. Haskell announced today. The hurdles take over following the conclusion of the local program of turf racing. They will be featured three times weekly through August 2. , On that date the sport will reach, its climax when the 0,000 Midsummer Hurdle Handicap will be contested for the seventh consecutive year. This is an invitational event for three-year-olds and upward, with no entrance or starting fees. Decided over a distance of about two miles, it is expected to attract Americas leading hurdle specialists. Invitations to compete in the Midsummer Hurdle Handicap will be issued by a committee headed by Haskell, president of the United Hunts Racing Association, and consisting of Edward J. Brennan, John E. Cooper, Townsend B Martin and Chris Wood, Jr. In an effort to lure a number of Europes top contenders, it is planned to announce weights for the event Saturday, July 20, nearly two weeks in advance of the fixture. An additional attraction for hurdle enthusiasts is scheduled for July 12, when the initial edition of the ,500 added Monmouth National Maiden Hurdle series will be run at one mile and three-quarters.
