Nashua and Rex Ellsworths Swaps, each to take place in a different major turf sector of the United States, to determine beyond question the relative merits of these two outstanding rivals for the 1955 three-year-old championship. Weight, Distance Up to Owners The first of* these extravaganzas would take place at Hollywood Park, under LeRoys proposal, some time before the conclusion of the current meeting on July 25 The second would be staged in the Chicago area prior to the end of the Washington Park session on September 5, and the third would feature an Eastern racing program in the fall. The weight to be carried by each horse or the distance of each event was not stipulated by LeRoy, saying that he believes those important points should be determined by the owners of the contestants. LeRoys proposal was the latest development in Hollywood Parks attempt to bring together Swaps, Kentucky Derby winner, worlds record breaker in his last race and only three-year-old stakes star in the TJ. S., undefeated in 55, and Nashua, winner of five 00,000 races so far this year whose Continued on Page Forty-Two Three Nashua-Swaps Match Races Proposed URoy Suggests Each 00,000 Event Be Run in Different Locale Continued from Page One record is marred only by his defeat by Swaps in the Derby. LeRoy in commenting on his suggestion said: "A series of match races in the three major racing areas — Southern California in the West, Chicago in the Midwest and the New York-New Jersey section in the East — would be the fairest possible way to settle the supremacy in the three-year-old division in which we now appear to have two of the. greatest thoroughbreds of all time. "Neither side would have the advantage in shipping, location or training problems, although each would undoubtedly have to make some concessions in the long-range planning tney nave in mina ior meir horses. "The interest such a series of contests would create among the public would do an inestimable amount of good in America for racing." Long-range plans for Nashua and Swaps have not been definitely mapped at the moment, but the series as outlined by LeRoy is not calculated to seriously interfere with the schedule of either horse, although some changes may be required for both to keep all three engagements. tfa§U.ua is regard as" Certain to compete in the 0,000 added Dwyer Stakes at Aqueduct before he is shipped to Arlington Park for the 00,000 added Arlington Classic on July 16. Swaps is slated to go postward in the 0,000 added Westerner at Hollywood Park on July 9 and is considered a possibility for the 00,000 added Sunset Handicap there on July 23. He would undoubtedly pass up the latter event if the match race series became a reality. »•
