Aqueduct I By Chuck Connors Twin Disqualification Floors Paddock Gang Search, Memories, Records for Similar Case Recall Triple Setback at Saratoga in 1934 AQUEDUCT, L. I., N. Y., June 15.— The members of the paddock gang searched their memories, some old racing records, and then admitted defeat. The question that for the first time in many years floored the membership individually and collectively was the aftermath of the double disqualification on the opening day. The Bieber-Jacobs confederacy suffered two setbacks due to disqualifications, Hello Rita, in the days opener, and Searching in the seventh. Hello Rita raced for Isidore Bieber and was ridden by Conn McCreary, while Searching raced for Mrs. Hirsch Jacobs and was ridden by Ted Atkinson. The paddock gang wanted to know if it had ever happened before, here, there or anywhere, and the best available answer was no. However, Hirsch Jacobs took the double disqualification in a philosophical fashion and pointed out that there are other opportunities in the future. Jacobs has in his years of training accounted for many firsts. He led the list of trainers from 1933 to 1939, inclusive, and then after an absence of one year came back to top the list from 1941 to 1944. His old campaigner, Stymie, at one time was the worlds largest money gleaner until topped by Citation from the Calumet .Farm. Stymie is in second place with lifetime earnings of 18,485, garnered out of 131 starts with 35 wins, 33 seconds and 28 thirds. New York over the years has had many disqualifications and one that will long be remembered is the triple disqualification at Saratoga Springs. This occurred hi the last race of the final day of the meeting, which by the way was September 1, 1934. The three disqualified were Anna V. L., Noble Spirit and Semaphore. The ones awarded first, sec-and and third monies were Just Cap, Celiba and Badahur.
