Busch Denies Cards for Sale In Telegram to Newspaper ST. LOUIS, Mo., June 15 UP .— August A. Busch, Jr., owner of the St. Louis Cardinals, today underscored his denial that he planned to sell the club with a telegram to the New York Herald Tribune. Sports editor Bob Cooke of the Tribune was the author of the papers front-page story that the Cardinals were "oh the block." Busch said this was "simply not true," and added "our chief concern is not finding a purchaser but getting more base hits." He cited the million-plus attendance at the clubs home games last year despite a finish 2iy2 games out of first place. "We intend to keep the Cardinals in St. Louis," he said. Busch described the owners decisions about the Cards as "baseball decisions, not beer sales decisions." He said that St. Louis area sales "since your story raises the subject" were up, not down. "The report that T want to get out of baseball is just not true," he said. "I love baseball, and I enjoy being part of this great American institution."
