Nebraska Notes AK-SAR-BEN, Omaha, Nebr., May 14. Dr. H. C. Zellers of Lincoln, Nebr., recently appointed to the Nebraska Racing Commission, was a visitor to the racing secretarys office Wednesday. Dr. Zellers has been a highly active owner of thoroughbreds in the Midwest for the past 15 years. Harold Webb returned to his home in Fort Worth after spending two weeks here. He will return next week. Webb is the owner of a modest stable here. Robert Gallimore, leading rider at Ak-Sar-Ben, will be back ih action here again. Last season Gallimore was the most popular apprentice rider here, but this year hes plying his trade as a journeyman rider. Wayne Alexander of La Verne, Okla., checked in with his six-horse stable. The band will be conditioned here by the veteran trainer Jess Kemp. Eddie Burns, the perennial riding champion of . Phoenix, Ariz., arrived recently. Burns has been the riding leader in Phoenix on 17 occasions. Hes no newcomer to Ak-Sar-Ben fans, and should be high in the standings at the conclusion of this meeting. Burns engagements are handled by Charlie Williams. In from Denver are Mr. and Mrs. Castor Hansen. They own the good three-year-old Cleave, who will be trained by E. E. Presnell. Each Tuesday and Friday during this meeting will be Ladies Day with the fair sex being the guests of Ak-Sar-Ben. Twilight racing will be in effect each Thursday, when the first post will be 3:30. Glen Bamford checked in with 10 head from Sterling, Colo. The horses campaigned during the winter months in Arizona. Heading the group is the three-year-old sprinter Tondi. Racing here for the first time is Lyman Rollins of Phoenix, Ariz. Rollins brought 17 head here from Turf Paradise where he finished second in the trainer standings. Bud Giacomelli, popular Western jockey, is also making his first visit to Ak-Sar- Ben. He was the second leading rider during the Turf Paradise meeting. His engagements here are being handled by Frank Reid. Flying in from Denver are Mrs. Neta Monaghan, and her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Deline. Their horses race under the nom de course of the Monaghan Farms. Their Sully Duzit was recently voted horse of the year in Colorado. The stable of Myron Smith, Omaha horseman, arrived in excellent shape here af :er campaigning during the Sportsmans Park meeting in Chicago. John Bellino, former popular rider here, is currently handling the winners circle photgraphy. Bellino is now in excellent health after a years serious illness. W. D. Rorick, who with his son Guy, owns one of the most powerful stables here, arrived from his home in Johnson, Kan. . The Rorick string is conditioned by trainer L. L. "Spec" Lane. Jockey Gerry Casey arrived here from SportsmansPark where he was active during that meeting. Casey, well known to local fans, will be riding his fifth season at Ak-Sar-Ben. Also on hand fo the opening days races .are Mr. and Mrs. M. H. "Bud" Robineau of Denver. Their star sprinter Vino Su-tpremo was assigned top weight for the Inaugural Handicap. The Robineaus were accompanied by their son, Mike. The horses are trained by Eddie Presnell. The sixth race on opening day will find Ak-Sar-Ben paying tribute to neighboring Centennial Race Track of Denver. That race has been named "The Rush to the Rockies Purse." This being the centennial celebration of Colorado.
