Peterson Debuts as Trainer HOLLYWOOD PARK, Inglewood, Calif., May 14. Mel Peterson, for years one of the Wests leading jockeys, made his debut Tuesday as a trainer when he saddled E. H. Bakers Native Indian in the featured Century Purse. Peterson recently quit the saddle after accepting a mount or two at Tanforan. He injured a knee severely in an automobile accident at Santa Anita last winter and this hastened the retirement.
