Smiths Hillsdale was assigned top weight of 124 pounds for his seasonal debut here Saturday in one of the nations richest sprints, the 0,000 added Los Angeles Handicap at 7 furlongs. Racing secretary John Maluvius pegged the Indiana-bred handicap star, who in his last race at the distance defeated money-winning king, Round Table, in the San Carlos Handicap, four pounds over defending champion How Now. The George Newell color -bearer, who was unplaced in his first start at the meeting in the Hollywood Handicap, was given 120 pounds.
