On the Trot By MORRIE KURLANSKY North Shore Pace Friday Feature Kroening Stable SendsOutQuartet Plutocrat, Redwood Boy to Vie MAYWOOD PARK, Maywood, 111., May 14. The ,000 North Shore Pace, featured pacing event Friday night, brings out a representative field of 12 fast side-wheelers, including the four-horse entry of the Kroening stable, consisting of Cheri Adios, Meadow Ballad, Lord Adios sttd Cash Adios. This is the first time in the history of Chicago harness racing that one stable is represented by as many as four horses in the same race although four-horse entries are not a rarity at the non-betting, mile-track meetings on the Grand Circuit. Opposing the Kroening quartet, which seems certain to be the favorite, will be Plutocrat and Redwood Boy, both stallions victorious in 2:04 at this meeting; Boomtown, Neoga Jester, Trusty Chip, Ned Rosecroft and Lew MacPherson. As in all races of this kind where the field is evenly matched and the extra starters are lined up in a second tier behind the mobile starting gate, positions are of great importance. Cheri Adios and Meadow Ballad will get away from the favorable Nos. 2 -and 3 posts, respectively, while Lord Adios and Cash Adios drew into the second line. Plutocrat, on the strength of his 2:04 victory last week end when he held on in a stretch-long: battle to outfinish the good Cotton Prince, must be regarded as the strongest rival of the formidable Adios quartet. Ned Rosecroft raced in improved condition in his last two races, but like Lew PacPherson, individually timed in 2:05 in his seasonal debut last week, has to overcome the handicap of an outside post position in the first tier. Boomtown, Neoga Jester Redwood Boy and Trusty Chip doubtless will make best use of their tremendous early foot. Meadow Ballads start in this company reflects the high esteem in which the three-year-old filly is held by her connections. The undisputed leader of her contemporaries competing at this meeting, Meadow Ballad won her last six races in impressive style. Trainer Dick Williams, wholl drive the hard-to-handle Lord Adios in tonights early-closer will entrust Meadow Ballad to the skillfull hands of Glen Kidwell. Cheri Adios will be driven by Dicks assistant, Frank Cuff, while Cash Adios will have capable Ben Morgan in the sulky. With 36 of 51 scheduled racing: nights of the local meeting completed, Del Insko had scored 37 wins to be just two wins shy of his record, set last season for a 49-night session. . . Wisconsin sire, Mitimac, had two. winning offspring on Wednesdays card. Ram Stables Gilded Mitimac broke his maiden for trainer-driver Mel Fitzpatrick in 2:10, while P. J. Mac, driven by Dorman Perrin, chalked up his second win here to lower his mark to 2:10. . . Charles Stuart, five-year-old full brother to Brightside Farms former free-for-all ace, Jamie, a member of the coveted 2:00 circle and winner of more than 00,000, is steadily improving. On Wednesday, the gelding won his fourth race of the season for owner Ben Jackson and trainer-driver Bob Wagner. Charles Stuart was acquired by Brightside Farm as a yearling for five figures, but did not get to the races until four. Was tried out on the pace, but wouldnt do. His present owner got the trotter for the proverbial song and certainly got a bargain. Charles Stuart has earned ,169 this year. Mary Shanks Paunhause, in scoring his third consecutive victory at this meeting, downed a field of C-class rivals by six lengths. The five-year-old pacer, trained and driven by Morgan, in six lifetime starts was first five times and once second. Got a mark of 2:10 Wednesday. . . Another green pacer, Mrs. Cara Belle Eymans Direct Ey, a four-year-old gelding trained and driven by Clarence Curtis, is going to make the grade, judging by his winning performance Wednesday. Won in 2:09 for his second victoiy in his last three starts . . . Trainer-driver Everett Jefferson scored a double Wednesday with Amossons Richie and Kings Shadow to move up to 10th place in the local driver standings. Grand Scott, quite a favorite with Chicago fans ever since he made his May-wood debut for trainer-driver Bruce Nickells a few -years ago, annexed Wednesdays featured pace in 2:06, outfinishing the favorite, Dr. Hyslop, in 2:06. The black High Volo son last year raced successfully in New York and California for Howard Beissinger. He was claimed for 85,000 at Hollywood Park last fall and almost won himself out under Forrest Gerry Jr.s clever handling. Representatives of the Illinois Harness Horsemens Association met with Fox Valley Trotting Club and Chicago Downs officials concerning matters of purse structure and purse distribution at the forthcoming Sportsmans Park meeting. The session was conducted in an atmosphere of friendly understanding and both parties appeared well satisfied with the results of the confab. . . Incidentally, the two big events of the 84-night Sportsmans Park session, the American-National Maturities, are estimated to gross 5,000 for the pacing division and 0,000 for the trotting division. Both races are for four-year-olds.
