MURPHY WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, 111., June 13. — Coded Message, an outsider with the veteran jockey -Anthony Skoronski in the saddle, beat the odds-on favorite, Pasatiempo, with Johnny Adams up, in the sixth and best race here this afternoon. Coded Message, racing for J. Frank Parnell, obtained a bulge of three lengths after going a quarter mile of the one mile distance, while Pasatiempo was lagging and although the latter finished well, he was unable to make it. Third money in the. six-horse field went to Gin Tonic. The race, known as the Lightspur, marked the fourth start for Coded Message at this meeting and was his second success. He paid 4.60. Direct Tint Makes Pace Direct Tint, ridden by Don Scurlock, went out to make the pace, but Coded Message caught "him nearing the far turn and opened up a good lead. The eventual winner turned for home with a neat advantage, and Skoronski kept him on the rail. Meanwhile, Pasatiempo, who had tailed in the first half mile, had lost considerable ground on the" stretch turn. In the final furlong, Pasatiempo bore down on Coded Message and Skoronski was required to exert all his finishing ability to land his charge in front. It was another dismal day at Washington Park, cool and drizzling, and the attendance was reduced to just about a Monday minimum, being 8,989. The track was very heavy. William Carstens rode the winner, who raced in the interests of Wallafce Strong in the six-furlong dash. A field of seven went one mile in the fifth, and Bad Margie, winner of seven races this year and running for a new owner, was the most heavily supported. She could do no better than be second back of Stroller, who won by five lengths under the guidance of jockey Layton Risley. Bad Margie finished 10 lengths in front of Asking, the third horse.
