To Monmouth Oaks High Voltage Heads Roster For 0,000 Filly Feature Scheduled for August 6 OCEANPORT, N. J., June 13.— Nominations were released this morning by racing secretary John Turner, Jr., for the ninth modern running" of the 5,000 added Monmouth Oaks that will be decided at a distance of nine furlongs on August 6. A record 63 sophomore fillies were named, headed by Wheatley Stables High Voltage, the champion juvenile filly of 1954 and a winner of her last three starts. The gray daughter of Ambiorix was defeated in her seasons debut, then made a clean sweep of the Acorn, Black-Eyed Susan and Coaching Club American Oaks in her only other starts to date. The Monmouth Oaks actually is one of the oldest, stakes in the country, having been inaugurated in 1871 at the old Monmouth Park course that once stood within a stones throw of the modern plant. It was contested over various route distances during the course of the years, and in 1891 was held at Jerome Park, but it continued uninterrupted until 1893. Just one of the outstanding fillies of yesteryear who won the Oaks was Miss Woodford in 1883. Divisional Champions Have Won Stakes Three divisional champions have captured modern renewals of the Monmouth Oaks, First Plight in 1947, Evening Out in 1953, and Grecian Queen in 1954. In addition to High Voltage, other stake winners of the current season who have been made eligible for the forthcoming renewal include Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilts Sometime Thing, Circle M Farms Meno-lene, Cain Hoy Stables Lalun, and Alberta Ranches, Ltd.s In Reserve. Leading nominators were Harry Guggenheims Cain Hoy Stable and Mrs. Elizabeth Grahams Maine Chance Farm, with four each. High Voltage is one of four nominees representing Sunny Jim Fitzsimmons, dean of American horse trainers. The, others are Ogden Phipps Hula Hula and Caustic and Wheatley Stables Misty Morn.
