INDIAN SMOKE, unhurried when outrun early, was hustled into closer contention leaving the final turn, responded gamely when roused for the stretch and, under adept handling, was up in the concluding strides to prevail over SAINT OREGON. The latter raced BOOTS into defeat to assume a slight lead entering the stretch and held on determinedly thereafter in a sharp effort. POCO RETO failed to make up appreciable ground when subjected to stern punishment during the stretch run. BOOTS, much used early, had little left. MOUFLON tired. FULL BROTHER began sluggishly and failed to threaten. NUTMEGS LAD was through after a half mile. Scratched-50783 Duke K., 113. Overweight— Indian Smoke, 2 pounds; Mouflon, 1. Boots claimed by R. 0.
