American Flag Purse Draws Six Speedsters Texas Plains and Near You Compete in ThistleDown Test THISTLEDOWN, North Randall, Ohio, June 13. — Tuesday the nation observes Flag Day and ThistleDown has named its feature race the American Flag Purse to commemorate the occasion. Posted as the sixth among eight races, the main attraction is a ,000 allowance race in which a half dozen sprinters are entered to meet at five and *a half furlongs. The American Flag field contains Mrs. L. M. Carvers Betty Barr, E. W. Haynes" Texas Plains, Mike Prestons Near You, Broadmoor Farms Sports Play, P. I. Williams Lovely Miss and Dorchester Farms Stables Coburns Wish. Texas Plains paid 8.80 when he romped to victory going six furlongs here on June 6, but this was over a fast strip. In his previous try, over sloppy going, Texas Plains was a distant last. Near You was second, in front of Texas Plaines, and Coburns Wish was third at the line. The latter two will probably be considered strongest contenders in tomorrows outing because of their good effort on May 28 here. The Canton Handicap, third in the Northern Ohio series of distance tests is due to be" run here on Wednesday. Potential starters in the Canton, Baroda Boy, Court Shannon, Excel, Rough Cookie, Legal Time, Crosslock, Windy, Daddys Punkin, Trigger Man, Square Dancer, Montaera, Chiloe n., and Suits n Pants. Baroda Boy recently finished third in the 0,000 Riggs Handicap on the grass course at Pimlico; Excel and Chiloe II., ran first and second in the ,000 Ascot Gold Cup and Windy has scored in these series events both at ThistleDown and at Randall in prior seasons. The Canton is for three-yearrolds and upwards and the field is required to travel one mile and three-sixteenths for a ,200 purse. Alpino and Solar Bid won the first two events of the series but both are ineligible from further participation due to the conditions of the races.
