Upswing at River Downs Despite Bad Weather 10,185 Viewed Saturday Card; Seven Go in Todays Feature By W. A. CRUSE Staff Correspondent RIVER DOWNS, Cincinnati, Ohio, June 13. — This Ohio Valley has been plagued with almost constant rain and generally bad weather now for about a week and at present there doesnt appear to be any change for a better view. Amazing as it may seem the attendance figures as well as the betting have held an upward swing, as was evidenced by last Saturdays statis tics. There were 10,185 fans on hand, along! with the steady rain and they wagered! over a half a million dollars. With a breakjj in weather conditions, it is quite probable that this plant will set several records for wagering in this part of the state of Ohio this year. The Fort Thomas Optimist Club is to be Iionored by the feature attraction for tomorrow. For sophomores exclusively, the affair has a mile and one-sixteenth staging. Though the field is comparatively light there are seven which have been performing impressively at the meeting. Comprising the group are F. Merrys Expressive, Schultz and Madonnas Seasoning, Mrs. W. Clines Choice Pick, L. D. Moores Battle Rose, A. B. Ciccones True Bruce, W. Strongs Bakers Hope and W. F. Scotts Twenty-Five. Choice Pick will be trying for a third consecutive visit to the winners circle in as many times postward. The Joes Choice filly began her victories in the Argonne Forest Purse on Memorial Day. That was a six furlongs- dash and under jockey Kenny Robertsons strong handling through the stretch she had three-quarters of a length on the Celina Stables Chic Star while negotiating the distance in 1:16% over a very slow racing surface. Trainer R. A. Brown then entered her in a claiming affair for three-year-olds again ex- I Contiouedo.n Pajie jprjt-Seyeii Upswing at River Downs Despite Inclement Weather Continued from Page Six clusively and while going the mile and 70 m yards she galloped to a two and three-quarters of a length advance over W. Strongs Big Fun. The strip was fast for that endeavor and the time was 1:45% and this time apprentice A. Salem was in the saddle. Bakers Hope appears to have a touch of class for this field. The Heredero geldings first outing here resulted in a second to True Bruce. The winners margin was a short neck and the time for the mile and one-sixteenth was 1:47%. Bakers Hope followed that endeavor with a thifd to H. K. Stevens Phala Man and R. K. and A. L. Showalters Corinne-Again in the Silver Fox Purse. The track was sloppy for that race and it will be interesting to see tomorrow how he handles a considerably softer footing. True Bruce cannot be overlooked after his winning performance either but this Coastal Traffic gelding reportedly would prefer a fast raicng strip. He has been training rather smartly and" would not surprise his followers too greatly with another victory tomorrow.
