Handicap Run in Three Stages The Oceanport was more or less run in three stages. In the opening quarter Blessbull broke on top with Master Ace, Tidewater and Black Metal in close pursuit. It was Master Ace, last years winner, who was first at the half-mile marker, responsible for a sizzling fraction of :21%. Curving for home, I Geegee moved between horses to take command near the quarter pole, but here Due de Fer, under young Dpnald Brumfield, made his big move and rushed past I Geegee on the outside, the half clocked in :44%. Past the eighth pole I Geegee took over once again as Due de Fer seemed to retire under punishment. The former had a good shot at the wire and seemed on his way to a score when Dark Peter and Bobby Brocato drew out from the bunched second flight to race at the leader in the middle of the track. It was Dark Peter, under the skillful handling of Sam Boulmetis, who was able to run down I Geegee in the final strides of this interesting dash, winner by half a length. Dark Peter, carrying-118 pounds and giving weight to all but Bobby Brocato and Blessbull, was timed in 1:10, a second off the local standard set by Master Ace last reason, who was in receipt of 30 pounds from White Skies that day. Nor was the Oceanport the only noteworthy event on the card. In the third race Dave Emery sent Carolyn K. Stables Hi-Sag after the youthful victor, Smooth Stride, and at the end of the five furlongs it was Hi-Sag who was in front by a length, caught in a clever :59 over a "good" strip. Hi-Sag, who has now won three of his four races, is a homebred by Saggy from the blind mare, Imperieuse, a daughter of Jack High. Owner Irving Kirshbaum thinks he has a good one here and has gambled the 00 supplementary nomination fee "to put the colt in the New Jersey Futurity on July 13. /
