ROYAL STONE lacked early speed and had to be carefully ridden on the turn, came out slightly for room in the stretch and got up in the final strides. RITE-STEP established a clear lead quickly and held command until nearing the end before faltering. BRUJARIA was with the first flight from the outset and turned in a good effort. SPANISH QUEEN was forced to race wide on the turn and held on stubbornly until the end. MISSY ANN was on the inside while within striking distance and lacked a menacing rally. MEL 0 BIM broke greenly, was forced to race wide and closed willingly. AMENT was prominent early and weakened. QUEEN MARGIE was closest to the pace until the stretch and shortened strides. LADY REACT tired. BABCHA had to be carefully handled while between horses. Overweight— Royal Stone, 1 pound; Mel o Bim, 2. NINTH RACE 1 1-4 MILES out of chute. Slip oNed, Oct. 12, 1953— 2:03%— 6-110. AIRTROOP went into command soon after the start, shook off CROSSLOCK when challenged on the final turn, was hard put when threatened in the stretch by SQUARE DANCER and outgamed the latter through the drive. SQUARE DANCER, steadied along early, went up to engage the winner in the stretch and was not good enough. CROSSLOCK moved through on the rail when making his bid, was on nearly even terms for command between calls on the final turn and tired. WINDY gave way badly the final quarter mile.
