Baldwins Most Lucrative Effort When Blue Choir won the Balmoral Turf Handicap Saturday, it marked the richest purse ever won by the Irish-bred, by his owner, Mrs. Harry L. Nathenson; by his jockey, Ronnie Baldwin, and ever saddled by his trainer, R. W. Lilly. Baldwin, who is another underrated jockey, rode a fine race on Blue Choir and was rewarded for his efforts by receiving a nice kiss from Mrs. Nathenson in the winners circle. Also believe that Baldwin collected a neat package of currency for his chore. . . . The South American runner, Cascanuez, who was the favorite in the Balmoral, will remain in the Chicago area for the time being, although his trainer, Jack Carrara, has departed for New England. Cascanuez was turned over to Frank Kurinec to handle. Bobby Ussery, who came out to ride Cascanuez, left with a .500 "batting average." Failed with the "big horse," but won a race Saturday with Alternative. Hilton "Rabbit" Dabson, owner of Nances Lad, lost little time in visiting the press section following the arrival of his colt Saturday. He renewed acquaintanceship with many of the boys he had not seen in years. Nances Lad stood the trip in good condition. . . . A. G. "Lex" Wilson brought Dogoon in from Detroit together with Swoons Son and Dark Toga. They are owned by T. D. Buhl. . . . Betsy T is back from Detroit where she finished third in Saturdays Rose Leaves Stakes at that point. Jockey Chris Rogers, who rode the filly in that event, also returned. . . . Apprentice Larry Gilligan, leading "bug boy" at this meeting, remained in Detroit. He is needed there by his contract employer, Vester R. Wright, now that R. L. Baird, older jockey for the stable, is under suspension.
