Y., June 13.— Nashua did just what was expected of him last Saturday when he won the Belmont Stakes with supreme ease from the sur prisingly gooa blazing count, Portersville and five other three -year-olds with distinctly modest qualifications, but on the same afternoon and 3,000 miles away, the Belair colts arch rival, Swaps, his "fair and square" conqueror in last months Kentucky Derby, showed the patrons of Hollywood Park an even more brilliant performance hi smashing a worlds record for a mile and a sixteenth and turning back the challenge of hard-hitting little Determine, this pair meeting on even terms according to the scale of weights for June. Nashua, never inclined to do more than is strictly necessary in order to win, simply squandered his field with a last quarter, unprecedented in the Belmont Stakes, clocked in :24%, drawing away under jockey Eddie Arcaros brisk hand ride to score by some nine open lengths over the bravely finishing, but quite outclassed, Blazing Count. Considering the absence of any effective prompting, Nashuas Belmont was a "big" race, but, in the light of cold analysis, his Kentucky Derby, where he had-tm tap a last half individually timed in :49% as against one here_in :50%, was an even more impressive performance,"although whatever Nashua showed at Churchill Downs, the extraordinary Californian, Swaps, could not only match but go our j eastern champion one better. .
