ANNJOWETT headed the field after leaving the backstretch to widen on her opposition and, ridden out to the end, was not in danger of being caught. MANY FAULTS was slow to begin and was required to go wide while making his move, but finished with a fair amount of courage. MENOWN was required to race wide early, then dropped back to cut to the inside in the stretch and was going well at the end. PRESIDENT RYAN was a forward factor early but weakened. SARTOGA PETE was never away from the pace and coming steadily through the stretch, caught BON ZEVIAL in the last thirty yards to win drawing out under urging. BON ZEVIAL opened up a long lead after leaving the backstretch and, although weakening in the final furlong, held PIRATES ALLEY safe. The latter moved up after entering the stretch and raced steadily to the end. BELDIC lacked early speed but closed some ground. SIXTY TWO was always outrun. DOTTY NOBLE raced on the outside through the stretch, but was much too good for the others. KINGS MEN was always fairly well up in a steady effort. Won driving; second and third the same, DEMOSTHENES II. dashed into a good lead soon after the start and, increasing his margin after leaving the backstretch, had enough left to hold HEAD FOR HOME. The latter raced rather wide on the stretch turn, but came to the inside in the last furlong and was gaining rapidly. FIELD SPY lacked early speed but made up ground in the middle of the track in the stretch. COTTON TOP tired. APPLIABLE had some early speed. BOBTAG took command in the first quarter and, although sent into a long lead thereafter, had something in reserve with which to stand off the stretch challenge of MIGHTY TOM. The latter moved up on the outside in the stretch, but was unable to catch the leader, although racing well to the finish. SMUGSY WUGSY raced very wide down the backstretch, but took third place in the stretch and was taken in hand in the last twenty yards. CHILDERS finished fairly well.
