Full Fie*d to Contest Sowers Club Purse Today Nymphs Pride, Styles Dream, Blue Call Meet at Ak-Sar-Ben By PAT CAUDILL Staff Correspondent AK-SAR-BEN, Omaha, Nebr, June 13.— ,A well-balanced eight-race program, headed by the Sowers Club Purse, Has, been arranged by racing secretary Kenneth W. Mcintosh for presentation Tuesday as this one mile oval commences its third week of racing of the 35-day meeting. Each of the contestants in the fourth event remains eligible for the 1955 Ak-Sar-Ben Breeders Special to be decided here cn Tuesday, June 28 at one mile and 70 yards with a purse of ,000. The Sowers Club Purse, an allowance event for four-year-olds and upward at six furlongs, has drawn a full field of evenly matched sprinters and the also eligible list contains only one, Olin Sledges Tin Twist, who, has his stablemate, Silver K., also owned by Sledge entered among the regular starters. Nymphs Pride, to sport the red and white colors of the White Spot Farm, will be ridden by jockey Robert Ford and it is very likely this six-year-old will be installed the public choice. His first outing at this meeting last Tuesday saw him set the early pace In the Flying Farmers Purse and continue gamely to be beaten a length by the highly regarded Go-Ye-Far. Keen competition to Nymphs Pride can be expected from G. Whittenbaughs Styles Dream, J. W. Coopers Undone, who has been meeting the top grade racing here, L. W. Johnsons Heart of Oak and W. D. Rorick and L. O. Lanes Blue Call. -Rounding out the field are such steady goers as W. A. Davidsons Freedoms Pride, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Craigs Sir Butch, George Bamfords Doc Moorman, F. O. Akins Gallaride, Mrs. Sadie Foleys March Lark, a two-time winner at this meeting when matched with lesser grade company and O. D. Forneys Yclept. In the co-feature, a six furlong test for homebred sophomores, W." D. Rorick and L. O. Lanes Red Spec will attempt to lengthen his unbeaten record to three victories as he meets such speedsters as S. H. Hills Dutch Wyatt, the Double "L" Farms Papagayo, E. E. Blackwoods Ark-Ky-Tex. • - A gathering of 13,302 fans braved threatening weather to view last Saturdays program and saw Harold Wells Calloway K. romp to his second consecutive victory in winning the ,000 Ak-Sar-Ben Queens Plate Handicap under the capable handling of jockey Robert Mundorf. The five-year-old held a three length advantage, oyer the outsider, Appointment, owned by F. O. Akin, who closed with a rush to beat out Glenn Murphys Flashy Ways by a length and one-half for place position. The fa- I vored Butch K., owned by the partnership of Guy and Walter Shultz was unplaced. The racing strip reached a "good" condition for the event and the winner stepped the one mile and 70 yards in the creditable time of 1:43 to return 8.40 to win.
