New Jersey — By Joe Hirsch Wager Record ,798,702 on Opening Card Dark Peter Impressive Oceanport Victor Hi-Sag Goes Five-Eighths in Sparkling :59 MONMOUTH PARK, Oceanport, N. J., June 13,— This 50 -day meeting opened with a flourish over the week end, highly successful both from a financial as wen as artistic point oi view. Despite the drizzle and overcast skies that prevailed in the morn-x ing, a crowd of 24,697 wagered ,798,702, both marks shattering last years record figures, which were compiled on a pleasant afternoon with the added attraction of White Skies in the feature race. As for the sport, itself, racing secretary John Turner, Jr., arranged a particularly appealing and well-balanced card hieh- lighted by the Oceanport Handicap. The feature drew many of the Easts top sprinters, so that the victory of Clearwater Stables Dark Peter must have been particularly gratifying to his connections. Minus an absolute standout such as White Skies, wagering in the Oceanport was pretty evenly spread out among Bobby Brocato, Dark Peter, Due de Fer, Ifabody and I Geegee, with Blessbull and Master Ace also coming in for a good measure of support. Bobby Brocato, the Paumo-nok victor, wound up the public choice.
