ACE MARINE sprinted to the front in the run to the first turn, was cleverly rated in front, shook off a bold challenge from BAFFIN BAY after straightening out in the home stretch and came away smartly inside the final sixteenth. BAFFIN BAY raced in the first flight from the beginning, responded when punished entering the stretch, made a determined effort to overhaul the winner but was held safe, then continued gamely to the end. SENATOR JIM lacked speed, moved to the leaders on the. last turn and finished with determination. LOYALIST, outrun early, was taken out for the drive and closed well. SPRINGHURST closed a gap. SCARBORO LASS raced well placed for the first six furlongs, then faltered gradually. WINDERMERE could not gain a contending position. BERNFORD, well placed early, failed to respond when urged. SILVER SPAT could not reach the leaders. MERRY LIFE tired after forcing the early pace. BIRCH HILLS stopped. DORENES LAD could not keep pace. FLEET BRENDA had brief speed. FLEET COUNTESS showed nothing. FAIR SHORE was never troublesome. FAIRATOR never entered contention. GREAT WEST was caught in close quarters soon after the start and lost his rider.
