Derby Run in May 76 Times CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 1. — Since 1932, the Kentucky Derby has been decided on the first Saturday in May each year excepting 1945. In the latter year, the date of the Derby was June 9, resulting from a temporary blackout of racing because of the war. In only one other year has the Derby been run in any month other than May.
