The Westerner, whose hobby is hunting mountain sheep, lions and deer, rode Brookmeade Stables Liberty Road in 1947, finishing tenth. The previous year he was third astride Fox-catcher Farms Hampden. Jessop gave Ruhe an excellent ride in the 1951 Derby renewal, but the best his mount could do was third be hind Count Turf and Royal Mustang.
