CLOWN ESS was never too far away and, coming steadily to catch FLAMING TERA on the stretch turn, drew out slightly but was doing her best to hold WICHITA LASS. The latter raced rather wide but was gaining at the finish in a good effort. FLAMING TERA raced MARTIN WHELAN into defeat, but weakened in the last sixteenth. MIRA SAD0R was wide on the first turn, but went well thereafter. MIST 0DAWN bore out badly on the first turn. BIG QUESTION and CINDALITE also went out on the first turn. I FROO was eased back off the early pace of BUBBLE GUM and, moving up to the latter on the outside after entering the stretch, forged to the front to win drawing out under mild pressure. BUBBLE GUM went to the front soon after the start and, although weakening in the stretch, was too good for the others. JACK FUSANO made up some ground in the late stages. SEDGEGOOD had no excuse and tired badly. EASY COIN WAS INJURED IN THE STARTING GATE AND ORDERED WITHDRAWN. MONEY WAGERED ON HIM WAS REFUNDED. Scratched— 847443 Easy Coin, 118. ATOMIC ENERGY headed C0CK0F-THEWALK after going a quarter, and drew out from the latter nearing the stretch turn, but was required to do his best near the end. COCKOFTHEWALK remained closest to the pace after being headed, and coming steadily in the stretch, was gaining at the end. JAY EDWARD moved up strongly on the backstretch and went well thereafter. Won driving; second and third the same. ROUGH N READY was never far away and was still under light restraint when he permitted EARL, JR. to flash past him nearing the stretch turn, then saved ground on the stretch and was up in time for a dead-heat. EARL, JR. rushed up on the outside nearing the stretch turn, raced beyond the middle of the track on the bend, but went well to the finish. CRITERIA was eased momentarily when in close on the inside of WAGEL in the first quarter and went well thereafter. MAY FIRST made up some ground. OPAL BLOSSOM and WAGEL tired. MARABOUT went to the front at once and soon drew away from the field, but was forced out near the end to hold UNCLE JOHN. The latter, probably best, was slow to start and was outrun for a quarter, then raced into close quarters nearing the 1 stretch turn, was eased back, lost ground on the stretch turn, but was gaining with every stride. SET SHOT was rated within striking distance early, and taking advantage of an opening on the inside of PINK MINK nearing the stretch turn, took a short lead, then continued well on the inside after again being headed and got to the front once more near the end to win narrowly in a drive. PINK MINK had speed and having something in reserve when challenged, got -to the front again, although going wide on the stretch turn and went well thereafter. DADS DEGREE was going strongly at the end. RAGING TIDE finished fairly well. FROSTY FACE went evenly. BROOKHAVEN and HOPE HULL tired. BY GONE DAYS was well rated close to the pace to the final quarter, then went to the front and, hustled along through the stretch, was not seriously threatened by WHIRL HOME. The latter trailed early, but made a aood move when ready and was racing strongly at the end. GLADE WELL was going fairly well at the finish. DOUBLE BARREL dropped back when. the real racing began.
