Montrose at 10 to 1 Odds CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 1. — Banburg was the Derby favorite in 1887 at 8 to 5; Jim Gore, a son of Hindoo, was 3 to 1; Pendennis, 4 to 1; Ban Yan, 5 to 1; Jacobin, 6 to 1; Clarion, 10 to 1, and Montrose at 10 to 1. Montrose won easily, with Jim Gore second, Jacobin third and Banburg fourth Allen W. Thur-man of Columbus, Ohio, later purchased Montrose and brought him to Ohio as a stallion at his stock farm in Madison County. Montrose had little opportunity as a sire, but he sent some winners to Chicago, among them W. C. T., from Georgie H., by imported Kyrle Daly.
