Willie Shoemaker Shoemaker, West Coast Hero, Making Second Rose Run Bid WILLIE SHOEMAKER, hero of West Coast racing, will be making his second Derby attempt with Saxon Stables Invigo- rator. Ever since he started riding, Shoemaker always has been . either first or second in the list of American jockey leaders, - and, in 1950, tied with Joe Culmone for national honors, each boy riding 388 winners that year. Shoemaker flew • here from Tanforan to ride Invigorator for his old friend, trainer N. R. " Y o r k i e " McLeod. Shoemaker was introduced to Derby competition last year with Count Flame, who finished fifth. He fits Invigorator perfectly, . for he has that rare knack of being able to always have a little left for that all important final sixteenth.
