Ram o Wars Trainer Once Rode for Man o Wars Owner J. S. "BUDDY" SARNER, Ram o Wars trainer, like many other trainers this year, is making his first venture to the Derby. Born in Pittsburgh in 1918, he started to gallop horses in the fall of 1929 for the late Samuel D. Riddle. He rode mostly at half milers and Charlestown for a spell, but was forced from the saddle by increased weight. During the war years, he worked in a defense plant in Brooklyn, but later returned to the turf, joining Harry Clarke of the Christiana Stable. In Florida last winter, Sarner took over the training chore for Bruce Campbell. Some may recall Sarner as the trainer of Robber, who won at Hia-leah on a payoff of 25.00 to win in 1950.
