Ascot Special Draws Ten Middle-Distance Runners Even Better and Scrub, Winners At Meeting, Vie for Favoritism By RONALD KRANCER Staff Correspondent ASCOT PARK, Cuyahoga Palls. Ohio, May 1. — The Ascot Special at a mile and one-sixteenth headlines tomorrows nine-race program here at Ascot Park. The race is for three-year-olds and older, and carries ■ ,000 purse. Those entering overnight are the W. P. Bell-trained entry of Bill Keefe and Flyaway Jack; Debdeb, Bullet Cee, Cockpit, Even Better, Locadah, Scrub, and Bold Arrow. Two of the above mentioned, Even Better and Scrub, both have had excellent races over the course in the past week and should be about equal choices at post time. Both horses are being pointed for the rich Gold Cup on closing day and are coming along fine in their training for that event. Scrub won here on Wednesday when he defeated First Boston, a former Gold Cup winner, by five and a half lengths with William Hawksworth in the irons. That was the first* start of the season for the four-year-old son of Challador — Brave Heart who was bred by Warner Jones. Last season, Scrub was one of the most consistent performers here in Ohio and in all won himself five races in 15 starts. % Even Better won here on last Saturday in a thrilling event, one in which he came from well out of it. At the end of the mile and one-sixteenth he was three parts of a length to the good of Bold Arrow. In his firt race here at Ascot he was placed behind Locadah
