Twenty Letters in Alphabet On Derby Winning Roster CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville. Ky., May 1. — A vast number of turf fans employ extraordinary methods of selecting their choices besides the generally -accepted method of picking em on their past per- c formances, workouts, best times, breeding, class, consistency, weights, etc. r_ The alphabet, or letter system, is one which is certain to get a heavy play in the 2 Derby. Twenty of the 26 letters of the al- c phabet are represented among Derby win- = ners. Those bent on this method probably g will concentrate on horses whose names _ begin with the letter "B," because the "Bs" have been the most successful in the 78 ? previous editions of the big race. Ten "B" 3 horses have won the Derby. "Is," "Ns," "Qs" "Vs" "Xs" and "Ys" are the only six characters not represented with a win- -ner to date. But the "N" will command £ much attention, and rightly with Native r. Dancer going postward.
