► Derby Day Breakfast One Of Kentucky Traditions CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 1. — The Kentucky Derby will be decided here tomorrow afternoon for the seventy-ninth time and along with the running of the rich three-year-old classic will go many traditional customs, which are as much a part of the Derby Week holiday as the crowning of the victor with the wreath of roses. Ask any Kentuckian, especially those whose homes are in the Falls City, and they will tell you that the Kentucky Derby is something that happens not too long after a round of Derby breakfasts. Rated as the social tops of the entire year, every loyal Kentuckian, and as many guests as he or she can take care of, either is on the way to a tasty morning meal, or is giving one as host or hostess. Weather permitting, many of these affairs are served out of doors and the menus are decidedly something to write homei about. The break comes with a tall and j cool mint julep, then fresh fruit, the finest Kentucky ham, "stand up and speak I kindly" country fresh eggs, hot biscuits and the trimmings. Back to another mint julep and then to go racing. The 1953 renewal of the stake is the signal to renew the fine old custom of Derby breakfast, and groups who have made it a traditional "must" seem to be more numerous than ever this spring.
