Omar Khayyam Big Bargain CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 1. — Omar Khayyam, winner of the 1917 Derby, was a bargain horse, being purchased by Billings and Johnson for ,500. He defeated as formidable a thoroughbred as Cudgel and the favored Ticket in the Derby. Omar Khayyam was bred in England and remains the only foreign-bred to capture the Derby, enjoying its seventy-ninth running tomorrow. After his Derby triumph, Omar Khayyam raced to still greater fame, defeating Americas best in several rich stakes.
