♦ — Royal Orbit Needs Aid From Dam Side Question If Admirals Belle Can Transplant Stamina to Offset Chargers Speed Royal Orbit is one of several Kentucky Derby starters by a "Guineas" type sire — a "miler" type as opposed to the true 10-furlong classic type. His sire, Royal Charger, also sire of Finnegan, Rico Tesio and of Turn-to, sire of First Landing, is, obviously, a stallion of much quality, but his get, on both sides of the Atlantic, with rare exceptions, have proven best at sprints or middle distances. Royal Charger, himself, was an exceptional sprinter, but of such quality as he was able to carry his speed to a near-miss third in the mile Two Thousand Guineas. The first 0,000 stud fee stallion in this country, his record as a sire has made that figure a sensible one. Nevertheless, he is still looking for his first classic winning son or daughter past 9 furlongs in this country. Dam Is by War Admiral If Royal Orbit is going to "get" 1 Va miles successfully in the Derby, he will require much help from his dams family. He does inherit considerable stamina here, but it is a question if it is enough. Royal Orbits dam, Admirals Belle, a non-winner in nine starts in two seasons, is by War Admiral, an excellent broodmare sire, out of imported Belle Cane, w nner of the 12-furlong New Zealand Oaks. :ielle Canes half sister. Love Set, produced Bel Amour III., dam of the Hollywood Gold Cup and Sunset Cap 13 furlongs winner Cover Up, a good sire in California. Belle Cane was by Beau Pere, a noted sire in New Zealand, Australia and this country, himself the son of Son -in -Law, a superior stamina influence. Belle Cane also produced the stakes winner Selector, and Lurline B., a stakes winner up to a mile and 6 furlongs.
