Stretch Run of 1,234 Feet CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville. Ky., May 1. — When the field for Saturdays Derby makes the turn home into the stretch they will have 1,234 feet to travel. That is the length of the stretch and the distance from where the mile and one-quarter race is started to the finish line. Churchill Downs is a one mile oval and the field passes the stands twice.
