I First Nomination in 1936 CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 1.— It was back in 1936 that Robert J. Klebergs famed King Ranch first nominated for the Derby. Split Second was their eligible that season but he never made the race. Morton L. Schwartz Bold Venture won the 1936 renewal and was trained by Max Hirsch. Hirsch later sent out a pair of winners for King Ranch, Assault in 1946 and Middleground four years later.
