Tom Fool is Ninth CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 1. — Tom Fool, whose son Tim Tarn won the 1958 Kentucky Derby, is the ninth sire to get a winner of the famous race before he became ten years old. Three sires got Derby winners before they were nine. Gallant Fox, Pensive and King Alfonso were each eight years old when one of their sons won the Derby. In addition to Tom Fool, the sires Bubbling Over, Dick Welles, MacDuff, Uncle, and Virgil were each nine years old when one of their respective sons won the Derby.
