ORNUM lacked early speed, raced up on the outside while going to the far turn and raced head and head with REPOWDER to the wire. The latter took a short lead on the stretch turn and held on with determination but could not resist the winner. ROYAL BETTY made up ground while on the inside. SKY CAPERS dropped back steadily in the first quarter, then came to the outside in the last furlong to finish strongly. THERE WAS A FIVE-MINUTE POST DELAY WHEN ROYAL DUDE BECAME CAST IN THE GATE AND WAS ORDERED SCRATCHED BY THE STEWARDS. MONEY WAGERED ON ROYAL DUDE WAS REFUNDED. Won driving LIKEWISE was taken in hand for the first quarter while on the outside, closed fast in the final quarter and wore down the leaders midway in the stretch, then drew out under mild urging. MENOBUY, slow to settle, closea fast between horses in the final stages. BAR CHIP set the pace to the last sixteenth, then gave way under pressure. MANUKAY gave an even oerformance and had no excuse. FANNYS ONE tired. IMPERIAL GUARD tired after forcing the pace to the stretch. WHATA RELIEF stumbled leaving the gate. MISS MANDEVILLE raced closest to the winner throughout and finished with determination. SHAN GRAY closed steadily while on the outside. MISS GRISSIM gave an even performance and was unable to improve her position. MASTERS CHOICE was never able to menace the leaders and saved ground throughout. LIL MONKEY was never prominent.
