Tender Morsel Accounts For Headliner at Laurel Rallies From Last Under Keene To Beat Chilly Pende by Length By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent LAUREL, Md., May 1. — Tender Morsel, acquired by Perne L. Grissom for 2,500 during the winter in Hialeah, descended to ,000 to return his initial dividend while winning Laurels featured Reciprocity Purse this afternoon. Rallying from last position under Harold "Red" Keene, the Bolero five-year-old was timed in 1:47 for a mile and a sixteenth and returned 1.20 to his backers in the sun-drenched crowd of 8,471, one of the smallest turnouts of the waning meeting. A length behind the winner in second position was Clarence W. Davis Chilly Pende, who was a neck before James Arthurs Herald Wind. The favored Kings Chapel was a faltering fourth after having been responsible for much of the pace. Tender Morsel was gaining his second victory in 10 attempts this season. Chilly Pende was in front during the early stages of the feature but gave way along the backstretch to Kings Chapel, who had moved to the inside for his surge to the lead. Kings Chapel, winner of two of four previous starts since being haltered for ,000, led into the stretch, where Herald Wind, despite lugging in slightly, moved to the fore. Tender Morsel improved his position from last position and continued to show a fine response to wear down the leaders and attain his one -length margin at the wire. Lester Bedwell sent forth Ewart Johnsons Bubbles Pick to account for the 6-fur-long seventh race in 1:1316 under apprentice John Block. The 5.20 chance moved from off the pace to outfinish Magnolia Farms Exception, with the faltering Bo-karis, owned by William Hal Bishop, lasting for third money. Platers of the ,500 variety met at 1 1-16 miles in the sixth race and the winner in come-from-behind fashion was Mrs. Roy Paircloths Puncheon, ridden by apprentice Tony Presti. Puncheon returned 8.60 after having been timed in 1 : 48% and was claimed from the race by J. P. Bruning. Mrs. Ada L. Rices Jealous, a prohibitive .80 favorite, beat the field of seasoned maidens which met at 6 furlongs in the fourth race, staggering 6 furlongs in 1:14% under Jack Leonard. Jealous withstood a claim of foul lodged by Carlos Gonzalez, rider of the second horse, Fred Westen-bergers Armevor.
