Seven in Distaff Sprint At Shenandoah Tonight Highweighted Good Bits Awaits Challenge of Poor Shahs Dish By PA*T CAUDILL Staff Correspondent SHENANDOAH DOWNS, Charles Town, W. Va., May 1.— The first Saturday night program here salutes the Apple Blossom Festival being conducted in nearby Winchester, Va. The featured eighth race drew seven fillies and mares, entered for claiming prices of ,500 down to ,000, and they will match strides over 6 furlongs for a ,000 purse. The queen, Miss Shenandoah Valley, is being selected at the huge celebration today and will be introduced to the crowd Saturday night by Sen. Jennings Randolph of West Virginia. She, along with Randolph, will participate in the winners circle ceremony following the runnning of the Apple Blossom Purse, presenting a trophy to the winning owner. Vivian Schaefers Good Bit is top-weighted with 117 pounds and rates a slight nod in the very evenly matched feature field. The seven-year-old will be meeting keen competition in Samuel E. Bogleys Poor Shahs Dish, Walter J. Shirk-leys Party Shoes and David Milburns Golden Dodie. The field is completed by Gretin Belivays Snobby Cuantos and Glenn E Prices Matinee Doll. Good Bit, a daughter of Ginobi — Good News, won at the recent Charles Town meeting. She will be ridden by F. D. Rivera and it is very likely she will be well supported. She won six of her 25 starts last year. Poor Shahs Dish, to be handled by Joseph Servis, is considered a strong threat to the chances of Good Bit. The Bogley mare raced well at Charles Town and more recently finished fourth at Bowie. Under the weight conditions, she gets in with 112 pounds.
